Step 1. Balance water. See "Ideal Water Balance" . Pay close attention to both Alkalinity and Stabilizer (Cyanuric Acid, Turbidity) levels. If water is stressed, the solution to the problem may be draining and refilling with fresh water! And if the Alkalinity level is too low, a reaction between the sanitizers and the acidic water could happen!

DO NOT DRAIN POOL IF GROUND WATER IS PRESENT! POOLS WILL FLOAT OUT OF THE GROUND, RIPPING THE PLUMBING WITH IT!

Step 2. Clean Cartridge Element or Backwash Filter. If filter pressure remains high, replace Cartridge Element (annual) , change sand (every 1 - 3 years), or clean D.E. internals (annual), whichever is applicable.

Step 3. If applicable:

• If Total Chlorine exceeds Free Chlorine by .5 p.p.m., or is less than 3.0, Shock pool. If less than 1.5 p.p.m., double the normal amount of shock, if 0.0 p.p.m., it could take four (or more) times the normal shock to kill the Algae and achieve a burnout point.
• If Low Chlorine or Chlorine Free pool, Shock with Monopersulphate or Sodium Dichloro Granular.
• If Chlorine Generator present, turn operation level up and Shock with Sodium Dichloro Granular.
• If Ozone generator present, Increase operation time and Shock with Sodium Dichloro Granular.
• If Nature2 system is being used, increase operation time to minimum of 24 hr. daily run. Shock with Sodium Dichloro Granular.
• If non-boosted pool sweep is present and plumbed on the pressure area between the pump & filter, turn valve OFF and DO NOT OPERATE POOLSWEEP UNTIL WATER IS CLEAR. Water that goes to these type of cleaners after the pump and before the filter, does not go through the main filtration and sanitizing system!

Step 4. Add Poly-Quat type Algaecide (Alg. 60), Add Natural Enzymes for aid in breaking things down, add polymer clarifier for linking particles to make large enough for filtration.

Step 5. Operate equipment (with main filter getting the water) 24 hours continuously (maybe for several days, not just one day) until water is clear. Maintain Sanitizer Levels above 3.0 p.p.m. and observe filter pressures for needed backwashes / cleanings. Using a phosphate eliminator, to insure against future algae infestations, is recommended.
