Virtual Adviser HOW TO VACUUM A POOL

ALWAYS TURN OFF POWER TO EQUIPMENT BEFORE MOVING BACKWASH VALVE OR OPENING ANY PIECE OF EQUIPMENT. HYDRAULIC PRESSURE CAN CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY !!!!

1. Backwash (or clean) filter. Be sure and clean pump pot basket also. Turn on pump and leave running.

2. Attach vac-head to pole and SWIVEL end of vac-hose to the vac-head.

3. While holding the vac-hose and pole, submerge vac-head into the pool, allowing the air to exhaust from the opposite end of the hose.

4. Continue feeding the hose into the pool until completely filled.

5. Most skimmers have special attachments to hook up the hose to the skimmer while still allowing the skimmer basket to capture the leaves and debris. Some have control valves (float in the bottom of the skimmer) that must be removed before vacuuming and a non-suction hole that must be plugged also. The float is removed by turning off the equipment & lifting the entire float assembly out of the skimmer. (SPECIAL NOTE: The "float" at the opening of the skimmer is called a "weir" and is NOT the control float.)

  1. Remove basket (and float, if applicable) and clean.
  2. Plug secondary line (if applicable)
  3. Replace basket and place vac-plate over basket.
  4. Attach hose to vac-plate or suction line.

6. If valves control the suction lines, close all lines except the one being used to vacuum with. If more than one skimmer is on the line together, plug (or close) the other skimmer to where all suction is on the vac-hose.

7. Vacuum pool.

* NOTES:

  1. USE VOSS (CLEAN-OUT) TYPE PLUGS (WITH THREADS) WHEN THREADED FITTINGS ARE IN THE SKIMMER. RAGS AND OTHER OBJECTS CAN CAUSE PERMANENT PLUGGING OF THE LINES!!!!
  2. USE OF WHEELED VAC-HEADS IN A VINYL POOL CAN CAUSE MAJOR DAMAGE BY SUCKING UP THE LINER UNTIL RIPPED!!!!
  3. VACUUMING EXTREMELY DIRTY POOLS CAN DEMAND MORE THAN ONE BACKWASHING. ADD EXTRA WATER WHILE VACUUMING !!!!
  4. OVERLAP YOUR STROKES BY ABOUT 30% OF THE WIDTH OF THE VAC-HEAD.
