Particles formed when chlorine level is not sufficient to completely sanitize the water and nitrogen compounds react to the chlorine. CHLORAMINES are what most people smell when they get into a pool, causing eyes to be irritated, and is usually indicative of needing a "shock". TEST WATER when "chlorine" smell is present. CHLORAMINES are present when total chlorine is a higher reading than free chlorine.
